MadeByMaggie.org provides digital teaching tools designed for educators and students.
We value your privacy and collect only the minimum data required for our organizers,
reading trainers, dashboards, and Google-integrated tools to function.
This policy applies to all Made by Maggie Teaching Tools, including but not limited to:
the writing organizers (Argumentative, Opinion, Narrative, Conclusion Builder),
the Reading Practice Trainer, the Teacher Dashboard, and all future tools under the
Made by Maggie brand.
1. What Data We Collect (All Tools)
Email Address (Google Sign-In — Optional)
If you choose to sign in with Google, we request your email address.
This is used only to identify your Google Drive files, support autosave, and allow you
to resume or recover your work. It is never used for marketing or shared with others.
Saved Work
Depending on the tool, your work may be stored in:
- Your browser’s local storage
- Your own Google Drive (via Drive API autosave)
- Your teacher’s dashboard session (Reading Trainer only)
We do not store your writing or organizer content on Made by Maggie servers.
Dashboard Usage Data
The Teacher Dashboard collects:
- Session codes created by teachers
- Student answer attempts tied to those session codes
- Skill-category accuracy and timing
- Optional class/section labels
No student names are collected unless a teacher manually enters them.
2A. Writing Organizers (Argumentative, Opinion, Narrative, Conclusion Builder)
These tools may save:
- Your essay text
- Writing logs (timestamps, revision progress)
- Autosaved versions of your work in Google Drive
Your files are stored only in your Google Drive or your browser — never on our servers.
2B. Reading Practice Trainer (Student View)
During a reading session, the tool collects only:
- Your selected answers
- Timing and skill-category performance
- Any highlight actions (optional)
This information is visible only to the teacher who started the session.
No student account is created and no personal identifiers are required.
2C. Teacher Dashboard
The dashboard stores:
- Teacher-created session codes
- Answer attempts submitted during that session
- Skill breakdowns and analytics
This data is used only to help teachers review performance.
It is never sold, shared externally, or used for advertising.
2D. Google Docs-Based Tools (e.g., Conclusion Builder Add-On)
These tools may request:
docs.currentonly — to edit the currently open Google Doc
drive.file — to save or update files created with the tool
These tools do not search, read, or modify other files in your Google Drive and do
not access your email content.
3. How We Use Your Information
- To support saving, editing, and restoring your work
- To enable Google Drive autosave and version recovery
- To provide teachers with reading-session performance data
- To maintain proper functioning of the tools you use
We do not use your data for marketing or advertising.
4. Data Protection & Security
- All communication uses encrypted HTTPS/TLS connections.
- OAuth permissions are limited to the minimum required scope.
- Your files are stored only in your Drive or your browser’s local storage.
- No organizer data is stored on Made by Maggie servers.
- Dashboard data is tied only to teacher-created session codes.
- No data is ever shared or sold to third parties.
5. Student Privacy & Compliance
Made by Maggie tools follow COPPA- and FERPA-aligned practices:
- No direct student accounts
- No persistent identifiers stored across sessions
- No student emails collected
- No advertising or tracking
- Teachers control how student data is labeled and saved
6. Google User Data Retention & Deletion
Made by Maggie Teaching Tools uses Google APIs only to support core features such as
saving, restoring, and editing user-created documents within the user’s own Google account.
Data Retention
- We do not store Google user content on Made by Maggie servers.
- All documents and files created or edited using Google-integrated tools are stored
exclusively in the user’s own Google Drive or Google Docs account.
- Limited metadata (such as document IDs or timestamps) may be temporarily cached in the
user’s browser to support autosave and session continuity.
- Browser-cached data is retained only while needed for active use.
Data Deletion
Users may delete their data at any time by:
- Deleting files directly from their Google Drive or Google Docs account
- Clearing browser local storage to remove locally saved organizer data
- Signing out of the application
- Revoking the app’s access via their Google Account permissions page
Once access is revoked, the application can no longer access Google user data.
Data Sharing
We do not sell, share, or transfer Google user data to third parties.
All access and usage complies with the Google API Services User Data Policy,
including the Limited Use requirements.
7. Your Choices
- Use organizers without signing in
- Remove files from Google Drive at any time
- Clear browser storage to erase local organizer data
- Delete dashboard sessions to remove student attempt history
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy occasionally.
The “Last Updated” date will always reflect the latest revision.
